The Importance of Individual Approaches in Education

The second edition of the “International Conference on Giftedness, Education and Development” connected scientists from diverse faculties: psychologists, sociologists, economists as well as many educational scientists and – most important – motivated teachers who are striving to continuously improve in their difficult job. Supported by the Serbian Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development it not only addressed important questions on the future of education in a fast changing world but was able to provide hands-on approaches, many of them easy to implement in school life.

As in its first edition in 2017 in Novi Sad the conference combined concise lectures, panel discussions and longer practical workshops. Of over 100 participants from 16 countries – amongst them Australia, Canada, France, Greece, Germany, the Netherlands and the US – 49 contributed as lecturers and enabled everyone profound scientific insights as well as glimpses into many existing projects. The workshops provided additional opportunities for more immersive and deeper exchange and networking. Many best-practice models came from experts and participants from Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, Montenegro and naturally Serbia as the hosting country. Their educational systems share a Yugoslavian history and many participants hope that future editions of this conference will also be held in their countries. Serbo-Croatian was the second language used in the conference with translation to and from English always provided by an excellent team of interpreters provided by the ministery.
The conference also provided an excellent opportunity for many interested members of Mensa – the worlds largest international organisation for highly intelligent people – to gain fascinating insights. Mensa Serbia had not only organized the conference again. Belgrade also hosted the EMAG 2018, the largest annual International gathering with more than 500 members from all over Europe as well as guests from Asia, Australia and the Americas.
